IIT JEE PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (ADVANCED SET–2)
🔹 PYQ–1 (JEE ADVANCED – CONCEPT)
Question:
At which point on the trajectory of a projectile is its speed minimum?
Answer:
Speed is minimum at the highest point, because the vertical component of velocity becomes zero.
🔹 PYQ–2 (JEE MAIN)
Question:
A projectile is projected with velocity 10 m/s at an angle of 60°.
Find the time taken to reach the highest point. (g = 10 m/s²)
Answer:
Time to reach highest point = (u sinθ)/g
= (10 × sin60°)/10
= 0.866 s
🔹 PYQ–3 (JEE ADVANCED)
Question:
Two particles are projected simultaneously from the same point
with same speed but at angles 30° and 60°.
Which particle reaches the ground with greater speed?
Answer:
Both reach the ground with the same speed, because final speed depends only on initial speed and height.
🔹 PYQ–4 (JEE ADVANCED – VECTOR)
Question:
A particle moves with velocity v = (4î + 3ĵ) m/s.
Find the angle made by its velocity with x-axis.
Answer:
tanθ = 3 / 4
θ = 36.9°
🔹 PYQ–5 (JEE MAIN)
Question:
Find the magnitude of resultant of two vectors of magnitude 3 and 4
acting perpendicular to each other.
Answer:
Resultant = √(3² + 4²) = 5
🔹 PYQ–6 (JEE ADVANCED – THINKING)
Question:
Is the magnitude of velocity of a projectile at the point of projection
equal to the magnitude of velocity at the point of landing?
Answer:
Yes, they are equal if the projectile lands at the same level from which it was projected.
🔹 PYQ–7 (JEE MAIN)
Question:
A body is projected horizontally from a height of 20 m.
Find the time taken to reach the ground. (g = 10 m/s²)
Answer:
20 = ½gt²
20 = 5t²
t = 2 s
🔹 PYQ–8 (JEE ADVANCED)
Question:
What remains unchanged during the projectile motion
if air resistance is neglected?
Answer:
Horizontal component of velocity remains unchanged.
🔹 PYQ–9 (JEE MAIN – SPEED)
Question:
A particle moves with velocity v = 5î − 12ĵ m/s.
Find its speed.
Answer:
Speed = √(5² + 12²) = 13 m/s
🔹 PYQ–10 (JEE ADVANCED – LOGIC)
Question:
Can the acceleration of a projectile ever become zero?
Answer:
No. Acceleration is always equal to g and acts vertically downward.
🎯 HOW TOPPERS SOLVE THESE PYQs
- Draw diagram first (even for MCQs)
- Resolve vectors carefully
- Use symmetry and energy concepts
- Avoid over-calculation
- Check physical meaning of answer
