Stage–1 | Page–2
From Concept → Equations (IIT/JEE Physics)

Thinking first, equations next

How Page–2 Connects with Page–1

In Page–1, you learned how to think physically. In Page–2, we learn how to convert that thinking into equations without confusion.

Important: Equations are tools, not shortcuts.

Step–1: Identify the CONTROLLING LAW

Every physics situation is governed by a primary law.

  • Motion → Newton’s Laws
  • Energy change → Work–Energy Principle
  • Conservation scenario → Momentum / Energy
  • Oscillation → Restoring force concept
Exam Trick: If you choose the correct law, half the question is solved.

Step–2: Define Variables CLEARLY

Before writing equations, clearly define:

  • Displacement (x)
  • Velocity (v)
  • Acceleration (a)
  • Time (t)
  • Constants (k, g, ω, etc.)

Always mention:

  • Direction (+ / –)
  • Reference point
  • Initial conditions
Golden Rule: Undefined variables = wrong equations.

Step–3: Write the BASIC Equation First

Start with the simplest form of the law.

  • F = ma
  • Work = Change in KE
  • Στ = Iα
  • Restoring force ∝ displacement

Only after this, introduce:

  • Constraints
  • Geometry
  • Special conditions

Common Errors While Writing Equations

  • Using final formula directly
  • Skipping sign convention
  • Mixing multiple laws together
  • Forgetting rotational terms
  • Assuming equilibrium wrongly
Warning: Most IIT wrong answers start at the equation stage.

How to Study Page–2 Effectively

  1. Rewrite equations with meaning
  2. Practice defining variables aloud
  3. Solve 2–3 basic problems slowly
  4. Focus on setup, not final answer
  5. Check dimensional consistency
Target: Clean equation setup under pressure.

What Comes in Page–3?

In Page–3, we will:

  • Apply equations to multi-step problems
  • Handle tricky constraints
  • Develop exam-speed confidence
