IIT JEE PREVIOUS YEAR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (SET–6)

🔹 PYQ–1 (JEE ADVANCED – SPEED COMPARISON)

Question:
Compare the speed of a projectile at the point of projection and at the highest point.

Answer:

Speed at projection = √(uₓ² + uᵧ²)
Speed at highest point = uₓ
Therefore, speed at projection is greater.

🔹 PYQ–2 (JEE MAIN – TIME IN AIR)

Question:
A projectile is projected at 45°. Find the ratio of time taken to reach maximum height to the total time of flight.

Answer:

Time to reach top = T / 2
Ratio = 1 : 2

🔹 PYQ–3 (JEE ADVANCED – VELOCITY DIRECTION)

Question:
At which point is the direction of velocity of a projectile horizontal?

Answer:

At the highest point, because vertical component of velocity is zero.

🔹 PYQ–4 (JEE ADVANCED – ACCELERATION TRAP)

Question:
Is the magnitude of acceleration of a projectile same at all points of its path?

Answer:

Yes. Acceleration due to gravity g is constant throughout the motion.

🔹 PYQ–5 (JEE MAIN – VECTOR RESULTANT)

Question:
Two vectors of magnitudes 9 and 12 act at right angles. Find the magnitude of the resultant.

Answer:

Resultant = √(9² + 12²) = √225 = 15

🔹 PYQ–6 (JEE ADVANCED – RANGE THINKING)

Question:
Two projectiles are projected with same speed. One at angle θ and the other at (90° − θ). Which has greater range?

Answer:

Both have equal range, because sin2θ = sin[2(90° − θ)].

🔹 PYQ–7 (JEE MAIN – RELATIVE VELOCITY)

Question:
Two bodies move in the same direction with speeds 25 m/s and 15 m/s. Find their relative velocity.

Answer:

Relative velocity = 25 − 15 = 10 m/s

🔹 PYQ–8 (JEE ADVANCED – ENERGY CONSERVATION)

Question:
Does the total mechanical energy of a projectile change during its motion (neglect air resistance)?

Answer:

No. Total mechanical energy remains constant.

🔹 PYQ–9 (JEE MAIN – VECTOR ANGLE)

Question:
Find the angle between vectors (6î + 8ĵ) and (8î − 6ĵ).

Answer:

Dot product = 6×8 + 8×(−6) = 48 − 48 = 0
Angle = 90°

🔹 PYQ–10 (JEE ADVANCED – FINAL TRAP)

Question:
Which quantity becomes zero at the highest point of a projectile?
(a) Speed
(b) Velocity
(c) Vertical component of velocity
(d) Acceleration

Answer:

Correct option: (c) Vertical component of velocity

🎯 FINAL RANK STRATEGY (VERY IMPORTANT)

  • Think in components, not whole motion
  • Use symmetry wherever possible
  • Never assume acceleration becomes zero
  • Energy method saves time in many questions
  • At highest point → vᵧ = 0, not acceleration
